Creative Creationists

The Ferrett has a description of an “interesting” graphic novel.

The evil fallen angels stampede the dinosaurs toward Noah’s Ark, hoping to destroy it… .  The flood waters drowned and killed the dinosaurs… .  This event is not a fable and not a “myth”…  It is a verifiable scientific fact!

PZ has some more commentary.

That was great fun. Thanks for the link.

In one of the scanned panels there is a box which reads, "NOTE: The fossil remains of numerous dinosaurs have been found with their heads and necks arched upwards, as if in their death throes they were straining to keep their heads above water!"

In fact, nearly all terrestrial vertebrates will arch their backs to the extent possible during the muscle contractions known as "rigor mortis." In the investigation of human deaths, one must keep in mind that the carcass may have even turned over after death by a combination of muscle contration followed by their release. (This is also one source for the reported marks in the interior of coffins).

Well, at least it presents an explanation, unlike Intelligent Design...

Jim Chapman · 4 June 2005

In all fairness to the original source, "angels" was spelled correctly there.

I was going to suggest that the fallen angles couldn't possibly have been right angles, and were more likely obtuse angles.

That's cool! Actually quite well drawn too - it reminds me of 1970/80s 2000AD art.

Some of the reader's comments at TF are gems as well. My favorite thread there opens with:

-- Humorous. Yes. Irritating? More. Crazies that make the rest of us creationists look like morons. Yes, there were dinosaurs. Yes, they were destroyed in the flood. A great war where they were used as weapons? OK... that's going a little far even for me. Did he spend a little too much time fantasizing in the Dinotopia world? --

What a discriminating rationalist! Like hearing a YEC criticizing Dr. Dino for playing loose with the "facts."

Or maybe am I being Lokied?

No, it really does appear that 'monenigme' left her brain at the door. She even links to Hovind's website as part of her 'open minded' quest for the truth! But points earned for being a YEC that can string a sentence together.

Dave Cerutti · 4 June 2005

For a second I thought that some creationist had written a graphic novel of Noah's Ark in the adult sense...

You mean like 'I have a fine education and have spent countless hours researching this ....'? Nope. Credit only to a level of self-esteem way beyond actual ability.

I read monenigme's stuff too, and think she's an excellent example of evolutionists 'misunderestimating' the competition. Sure, she advocates a lot of drivel, but not because she's an idiot. After visiting her rather interesting site, I'm convinced she drivels because she's afraid that rejecting biblical literalism would force her to reject a religious world view that's been a help in other areas of her life.

If you attack religious faith in general while trashing YEC literalism, you stand no chance of convincing such a person of anything, no matter how much the facts are on your side. And that's too bad, because I think some people like her might be convince-able if they could feel that they could keep their religion AND accept the truth of Evolution.

I just bought one! I can't think of a book that I have purchased that I have looked to for such entertainment in quite a while. And usd4.95, signed!

Reading it, I feel quite sorry for the guy.

I agree with most of your post. I think the thing that really makes the ID crowd so very, very bad is the false dichotomy that if you believe in God, then you can't believe in science. Or if you believe in science, you reject God. It's so sad.

At last! Intelligent design has a curriculum ready for the public schools!

Mostly it reminds me of Jack Chick...
