Flip Flop by Tulsa Zoo

The Tulsa Zoo has voted 3-1 to reverse its decision to create a creationism display.

A group called Friends of Religion and Science … collected nearly 2,000 signatures on an online petition asking the park board to reverse its decision.

Now what are the going to do about that Ganesha idol outside the elephant pen? I hope nobody brings suit against the Tulsa Zoo. I can see a very easy case for establishment being made. In that case the Tulsa Zoo shd remove the Ganesha exhibit and avoid any further controversy.

It would be pretty lame for anyone to contest the statue of an elephant. The logical suit would be for the Hindus or Sikhs to complain about the irreverant way that an Icon of their religion is being displayed with out proper religious rights and paraphenalia. If Christians want their icons to be displayed in cartoon fashion there is probably nothing stopping them from doing it. It is a part of our culture and they can justify putting these things up as the standard mythology that people grew up with. There aren't very many complaints about tee shirts with Noahs ark with all the animal's heads popping out windows and doors that never existed on the "real" ark being sold in zoo gift shops, at least, I've never heard of anyone claiming that that was some violation of church and state. If they think that it is to their advantage to display their religion in that fashion, they could probably do it.

I'm all for an exhibit going "According to Christian mythology, God spoke the world into existence..." etc. That's what the Ganesha statue is.
