Hovind arrested

Posted 13 July 2006 by

Kent Hovind's scofflaw habits are catching up with him:

A Pensacola evangelist was arrested Thursday and indicted in federal court on 58 charges that include income tax evasion, making threats against investigators and filing false complaints against Internal Revenue Service agents.

Try not to snicker too loudly out there. It's not nice to laugh at the misfortunes of others.

Fortunately, I'm not a very nice person.

New details are coming to light. I don't think Hovind is a very nice person, either.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

A bullshit artist like Hovind should have known better--it doesn't pay to bullshit Uncle Sam.

Keanus · 13 July 2006

Ah, there is nothing like the morally self-righteous being caught with their pants down. Hovind should call Jim Bakker for advice on how to deal with the feds and how to prepare for the up and coming move.

At least it's proof there's a God.

pough · 13 July 2006

Maybe now he'll have the time to debate in written format. It's easy to have enough time to drive or fly around one of the largest nations in the world to be a part of a spoken debate, but trying to find the time to write things down... Well, I guess that's the kind of time that only jailbirds have available to them.

Hmph, some evangelist.

Hovind's clever accounting is well documented at http://www.kent-hovind.com/revenue.htm

I, for one, would like to hear what the judge has to say about his reasoning.

i think it is entirely inappropriate that you are suggesting that hovind has a stash of kiddie porn. it is far more responsible to wait until the government announces the discovery of the stash, though we admittedly don't know how long that might take. you'll just have to hold your horses for a while.

Troff · 13 July 2006

Whoa, whoa.
"Making threats against investigators"?
Why is, sadly, there no more about this juicy little tidbit in the article?

And on a much less serious note: Dre, can we instead claim that there's evidence of kiddie-porn-related-activities instead? :-)

I hope he tries to flee the country. He'll get media attention as a creationist loon, and then extra time in prison.

"May 9 at 11 am is the hearing for Judge Michael Allen to reconsider his order to close the buildings. There are at least 35 serious problems with his order. If he does not reverse it and we appeal over his head and win, it will sure look bad on his record and may end his career as judge. Glen Stoll's Abatement filed last week in this case points out all the flaws in his order. I will post it as soon as I can."

Small high up passenger windows, Florida State Department of Corrections written on the side with yellow license plates starting with "DC" and ending in 4 numbers.

No need to reward for the design,

From Mr Hovind's blog:

Greeting: Prayer is a good thing but we must also learn to use mans law against himself just as David used Goliath's sword to remove his own head. I highly recommend the movie "The Occult World of Commerce" to get a better understanding of the Babylonian court systems we are dealing with. Its time we assert our Creator given rights! Also, I just watched your video "The Truth about the age of the Earth and Evolution. I really enjoyed it and think you did an awesome job, however, I think you (Kent Hovind) and your researchers should dig more into facts about a geocentric vs heliocentric universe. Scripture says the earth is not moving. There are some good books and websites dealing with a fixed earth. This heliocentric theory opened the door for evolution and its acceptance. This could just be another weapon in your arsonal to promote Jahshuwah's Kingdom and fustrate the NWO bankster plans! peace, Ed

I am not even sure if this is genuine, or someone is making fun of him. The next post is a beautiful example of the "we are the centre of the universe" nonsense. I am sure I don't need to illustrate to the readers here that the fact that all galaxies are moving away from ours does not mean we are in the centre *ahem* inflating balloon analogy *ahem*

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, um... George Washington. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto George Washington the things which are, uh, er... never mind.

22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled at how they blindly regurgitate Bible verses.

Adam Crowl · 14 July 2006

Guess Hovind figures he's been withholding taxes from being used on godless atheist activities like researching evolution.

Shame I can't withhold mine from being used on the Iraq War, paying Oil companies subsidies, kickbacks to corrupt foreign governments, political slushfunds etc etc.

I must pass this bit of news on to Pastor Sam McIlwrath of Forestside Christian Centre in Belfast. I was given a copy recently of one of their publications entitled "End Times". The headline was: "Prove Evolution and collect $250,000", a reference to Hovind's fraudulent offer.

I wonder if the Pastor is aware of Hovind's other activities and that he has now been arrested ?

I think you can get a glimpse into Hovind's mindset when he explains himself through his alter-ego, "Richard" here and here. I thought this was pretty scary as Hovind's response to the statement that Sheriff's Deputies take lots of backup when they go to Dinoland because Hovind has lots of guns:

Well, that both surprises me and explains a lot. First let me say I appreciate the hard job the 400+ deputies do in this county. I would not want their job. Pensacola, like every other city has some bad people that need policing. Second, I have loved target practicing since I was very young. My dad was a Marine in WW II and taught his boys to love guns and be crack shots. I started my kids shooting at about age 4. All of them are real good shots. With crime and drugs the way they are these days, I hope every law abiding citizen in the county has lots of guns and is able to use them to defend themselves if need be. I am a peace loving man but I am charged with a duty and a responsibility to provide for my family. This includes providing protection. I have never hurt anyone and certainly have never shot anyone and hope I never have to, but if someone came into my house to harm my family I would not hesitate to stop them. I suspect you, the deputies and anyone with a brain feels the same way. As for "lots of guns," that is silly. There are red necks all over this area with 10 times more guns than you will find here. All my children are married and live near me and we have 3 ½ grandkids now so most of them keep their guns at my house for safety.

Mike · 14 July 2006

"Try not to snicker too loudly out there. It's not nice to laugh at the misfortunes of others."

It's OK in this case, since the damage is entirely self-inflicted. Hovind is suffering no more than the natural consequences of his infantile belief that the world exists in his mind and conforms to his desires.

stevaroni · 14 July 2006

(from the 2nd article link) Over Kent Hovind's protests, the judge took away his passport and guns Hovind claimed belonged to his church.

When reading these messages from the ignorant who have not studied what the IRS is, creates a need to give a answer. First a federal agency is required to be inthe federal registry explaining who they are, what they do and how they do it. The IRS has nothing in the federal registry because they are not a government agency. SECOND: the Secretary of the treasury is not a officer of the United States as he is the govornor of the International Monetary Fund and is paid by them. US law forbids those paid by foreign agencies from being US officers or employee. THIRD: 27 CFR 250j.11 which is the definitions section of the US code defines the secretary of the treasury as the Secretary of the treasury of Porto Rico and the Virgin Islands. IRS agent is defined as Internal Revenue agent of the Virgin Islands. FOURTH: Monies for the US must be deposited with the treasury. Your check to the IRS is deposited to the FEederal Reserve under the Bretton woods agreement of 1942. Kent hovind was doing nothing illegal we can not be made to pay a foreign debt WHICH IS WHAT THE IRS COLLECTS. EVADING INCOME TAX IS NOT PAYING WHAT YOU OWE BUT AVOIDING PAYING WHAT YOU DO NOT OWE IS ENCOURAGED BY THE SUPREME COURT. THIS IS TAX AVOIDANCE RATHER THEN TAX EVASION.

From an article in Pensacola News-Journal:

When asked where he lived, Kent Hovind replied, "I live in the church of Jesus Christ, which is located all over the world. I have no residence."

...

In a 2002 lawsuit, Hovind complained that he feared "Gestapo actions of the Internal Revenue Service agents against him." He posted a "special notice to local, state and federal government agents, employees and inspectors" saying they could not come on his property without "prior written consent."

...

Last week, Davis ordered Hovind to surrender his passport and guns. Hovind claimed "thousands and thousands" were waiting to hear him speak in South Africa next month. He also claimed the guns belonged to "the church."

Seriously, is this guy for real? If I didn't know better I'd think the news services were trying to spring a belated and extended April Fool's Day joke on us.

'Rev Dr' Lenny Flank · 18 July 2006

When asked where he lived, Kent Hovind replied, "I live in the church of Jesus Christ, which is located all over the world. I have no residence."

Ha, "Dr" Hovind isn't even being original with THIS. He's parroting Abbie Hoffman's famous testimony during the Chicago Seven trial:

MR. WEINGLASS: Where do you reside? THE WITNESS: I live in Woodstock Nation. MR. WEINGLASS: Will you tell the Court and jury where it is? THE WITNESS: Yes. It is a nation of alienated young people. We carry it around with us as a state of mind in the same way as the Sioux Indians carried the Sioux nation around with them. It is a nation dedicated to cooperation versus competition, to the idea that people should have better means of exchange than property or money, that there should be some other basis for human interaction. It is a nation dedicated to-- THE COURT: Just where it is, that is all. THE WITNESS: It is in my mind and in the minds of my brothers and sisters. It does not consist of property or material but, rather, of ideas and certain values. We believe in a society-- THE COURT: No, we want the place of residence, if he has one, place of doing business, if you have a business. Nothing about philosophy or India, sir. Just where you live, if you have a place to live. Now you said Woodstock. In what state is Woodstock? THE WITNESS: It is in the state of mind, in the mind of myself and my brothers and sisters. It is a conspiracy. Presently, the nation is held captive, in the penitentiaries of the institutions of a decaying system.

Hoffman was, of course, much more entertaining about it.

First and foremost being ARRESTED does NOT mean he is GUILTY. Remember "innocent until PROVEN guilty" still applies. There are other, well documented cases that basically beleive the same as him; taxes are unconstitutional etc. Even if he is found guilty, doesn't our government have better things to do with our $ and their time then hunt down evangelists? Finally, being a creationist does not make him a loon. Being an evolutionist makes you uninformed though.........

He's in trouble on 58 different federal charges of making threats against federal officials, filing false complaints and tax evasion. I do hope you're not implying that evangelists are above the law. Isn't it interesting that some people accentuate other people's mistakes in a desperate attempt to cover their own? Whether we like it or not, whether you all believe it or not, we are ALL sinners. Jesus Christ accepted more sinners than any of us ever will accept, and He died on the cross for ALL OUR sins, which is also more than anyone of us has ever done for anyone else. Start thinking of how you are going to get saved, instead of coming down on Dr Hovind for preaching the truth! Maybe Dr Hovind made a mistake here on earth, but his reward in heaven will be the crown of having lead people to God. Which of you have done this (even once?)

Anne-Marie · 2 August 2006

Dear Debbie. Thank you for understanding my point. Dr Hovind possibly made a mistake, but we are not saved on the basis of not making mistakes (hence not paying taxes). We are saved on the basis of repentence and accepting Jesus as our only savior.

K.E. (not even having the guts to tell your name and stand up for your belief). What answers will you have ready? My answer will come from my intercessor, saying: "I paid for her sins with My blood, and she accepted" That's all you have to do: accept, and see the blessings come even on this earth. I challenge you...

Let me just preemptively discourage any lengthy Bible quotations that people may want to post. (I figure we were just about due for some evangelizing).

GuyeFaux: It looks like a little knowledge would not hurt you.

Christians can mess up just like any other person...David committed adultery and had her husband murdered...Solomon had his share of issues, Moses messed up too...Just remember those of you out there using this as an "out"...

Romans 2:1-3 KJV 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Judge not that ye be not judged...Repent and trust Christ as your Lord and Savior! In love and in Christ...Craig Linkowski...

Didn't work, huh. ;)

Sorry - I did not consider that lengthy.

I guess if you hate God's Word then any quotation might be considered lengthy =)

It is clear to me from what I have read that Mr. Hovind worships no god other than money and has no saviour other than himself. He strikes me as a charlatan, a fast talking con man who has found a rich mark - those many people who believe in Creation and will pay for the priviledge of listening to someone spout their own beliefs back at them. I, personally, would not continue to back someone who has drawn the level and type of attention that this man has drawn from the government. He has nothing to say that requires, convinces or even tempts me to believe in a biblical creation, a young earth, or the bible, much less his equally implausible tales of government conspiricies and coverups. If it takes the attention of honest, rational people away from him and lets him get back to milking his cash cow of True Belivers, he will do/say it. When he is convicted - and he will be convicted, not because he is actually guilty, but because the defense he is going to offer is actually no defense at all - he will be afforded the opportunity he is waiting for - glory as a persecuted martyr. His supporters...those poor, misguided, simple fools...will worship him all the more during his incarceration and again at his release. The money will flow like the rivers of ancient Babylon and Hovind will become (in his mind, and more importantly, in the minds of his followers) the god he believes he already is. Even if I agreed with his religion, his legal troubles would cast his integrity into dark shadow. For this reason, I find myself unwilling to give him the benefit of thinking he may have simply made a mistake, as others have posted. I think he has planned nearly everything. His goal? To become a martyr, to draw upon the outrage and sympathy of unthinking religious persons...to make even more money.

This thread was pretty interesting. I didn't anticipate Hovind supporters coming out of the woodwork ready to throw themselves in front of the guy.

But I suppose that's the "Riddle of Steel."
