Is this gorilla looking a bit peeved at the suggestion that he (she?) has evolved from a YEC? :)

stevaroni · 26 January 2009

It means nothing.

It's just another kind of primate that shares most of it's structure, almost all it's genetic material, and many of it's ancient ancestors with humans.

'Tis a fine black and white photo, but looks like it was photographed at a zoo. Maybe the Denver Zoo?

Henry J · 26 January 2009

Maybe the picture was taken right outside the tree house of George of the Jungle?

fnxtr · 26 January 2009

Didn't I see you on an episode of Daktari?

Dan · 26 January 2009

For anyone in the vicinity, I recommend the gorilla house at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo

There are a dozen or more gorillas there, enough to form a social structure.

Kelly Lyon says, in response to Mr. Kwok,

It was taken at Miami Metro Zoo, I have not been lucky enough to see gorillas in the wild...yet.

I wasn't suggesting anything else. The very fact that there is a "symmetry" is enough to invalidate the "humans evolved from chimpanzees" misconception.

Ms. Lyon adds,

I photographed a lot of animals in Africa - cheetah, lion, leopard, elephants, wildebeest, zebra, hippos...etc....just no gorillas.

Forgive me for chiming in with my own primate shots:

All zoo stuff, I've never seen a wild primate. Check out the "special guest primate" and friend in the bottom row.

I saw a wild primate once. I think he was a bishop.

Did he only walk diagonally? Cheers -- MrG / http://gvgpd.proboards.com

It’s just another kind of primate that shares most of it’s structure, almost all it’s genetic material, and many of it’s ancient ancestors with humans.

But unlike humans, it doesn't use too many apostrophes.

Ever been to a bachelor party or frat party?

Ian · 27 January 2009

How does it get its face to shine so? Does it use an off-the-shelf polish, or is there some proprietary gorilla formula they use? Would it take offense if I asked it?

John Kwok · 27 January 2009

Are you sure that wasn't the specter of "Soapy Sam" Wilberforce:

P. S. Tell Kelly that hers is a great zoo photograph and I am looking forward to seeing more from her, especially those from Africa.

Mom?

Henry J · 27 January 2009

Is that one of Tarzan's foster parents?

You joke, but I'd seriously like to know. Is the face tough like shoe-leather, or soft? Is it dry or oily?

Hulk Smash! Hulk Smash!

Well, that's the vibe I get from a 300pound gorilla...
