Some of these were a little sly to figure out ... "Wot? Oh, Eye of Sauron".

I was both undergrad and tech at one time. Chuck Norris? He's a CREATIONIST, geez!

Ah ... I thought it was perhaps an endoscopic image, if you catch my drift ...

That probably works better. Others -- Scrooge McDuck, does that mean "Moneybags" or "Skinflint", or possibly both?

Depends on the funding situation, I think.

That is just bloody hilarious.

The more one looks at that, the funnier it gets.

I love it!!!!!

The techs likely wanted a picture of Richard Dean as MacGyver instead of the karate kid.

YYYYYES!!!

Nah not MacGyver (he was a hack.) Since this chart was most likely created by a self described technician I think a better pic "How technicians view themselves" window might be Wernher von Braun or Jonathan Goldsmith. Goldsmith is "the most interesting man in the world" from the recent Dos Equis ads.

That said... the chart is very male oriented. What would an equivalent female oriented chart look like?

How about Scotty?

david.utidjian · 14 August 2011

Mike, that could work but perhaps not quite as well known these days. Ever notice that freshmen through new first year grad students hardly know about any cultural reference prior to 2000? Next time you are around a group (even a nerdy group) of twenty-somethings, ask them where the phrase, "Beam me up Scotty!" came from. My experience is you will get a lot of confused looks. MacGyver is also a bit dated, if it wasn't for re-runs. If a movie or TV show is more than three years old they tend to think of it as an "oldie." To them, anything "oldie" can't be any good because it isn't "new." Don't even try to suggest anything in black & white.

Well anyhow... that has been my experience of late.

They keep up the new STAR TREK movies and they'll think of Simon Pegg.

Yeah; we geezers keep getting Cleopatra mixed up with Cher.
