Limestone Geyserite terrace, Yellowstone National Park. I took this picture in 1964 and think it may be Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces Is Grand Prismatic Spring in Midway Geyser Basin. I returned in 2002 but could not find the same location. Alas, I still do not keep a good notebook.

I'm quite sure you have a very nice black and white picture of the run-off terraces of Grand Prismatic Spring in Midway Geyser Basin. See it in color on page 65 of "Yellowstone Treasures: The Traveler's Companion to the National Park." This is much closer to Old Faithful than to Mammoth Hot Springs, and the terraces at Midway are made of geyserite rather than limestone (or really travertine, as you have at Mammoth).

I agree 100%, Janet. This image doesn't look like Mammoth's terraces at all. And I've seen a lot of YNP in my days...

Wonderful place, Yellowstone. As long as the supervolcano on top of which it sits doesn't erupt. I'm only 754 miles (driving distance -- the distance by crow-flight is less) from there, and that's uncomfortably close. Fortunately they're mostly downwind.
